What does a hide-referrer link protect?
A hide-referrer link wraps a destination in a shareable intermediate URL intended to prevent the page containing the link from appearing in the destination's Referer header. It is useful when the source path contains private context that should not be disclosed during navigation.
The link uses the same no-referrer redirect mechanism as the dereferer and does not alter the destination itself. It is not anonymous browsing: IP address, destination cookies, tracking parameters, account state, fingerprinting, and server logs remain available. Avoid placing secrets in URLs even when referrer suppression is expected.
