Image Compressor

An image compressor re-encodes a JPEG, PNG or WebP at a lower quality setting to cut its file size. This one runs entirely in your browser on the Canvas API: the image is decoded, drawn to a canvas and re-encoded at the quality you choose, so nothing is uploaded and the original file is never modified.

How does browser image compression work?

An image compressor reduces file size by decoding an image and re-encoding it with a chosen format and quality level. Lower settings discard more visual detail, making the output faster to transfer while introducing artifacts that become increasingly visible around texture, text, and sharp edges.

The Canvas API performs the work locally and can output JPEG, WebP, or PNG from formats the browser decodes. Quality controls affect lossy JPEG and WebP but not lossless PNG. GIF input becomes its first frame, metadata is not preserved, and the original file remains unchanged for comparison.
