What information does an IP lookup provide?
An IP lookup maps a public IPv4 or IPv6 address to registry and geolocation data such as country, region, city, time zone, Autonomous System Number, ISP, and organization. ASN and network ownership are generally more reliable for investigation than city-level location.
After local validation, the server queries ipwho.is with an eight-second timeout and does not contact the target address. Geolocation is an estimate based on provider databases, not GPS, and VPNs, mobile networks, corporate gateways, and address reassignment can place the user far from the listed city.
