What does URL encoding do?
URL encoding replaces characters that have special meaning in a URL with percent-escaped UTF-8 bytes. This URL encoder handles individual paths, query values, and packed strings in both directions, helping prevent spaces, ampersands, hash signs, and non-ASCII text from changing how a URL is parsed.
The page uses encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent locally and follows the RFC 3986 unreserved character set. Encode only the component being inserted rather than an already assembled URL, because escaping structural characters such as :, /, ? and = turns the entire address into one opaque value.
