How does browser video compression work?
A video compressor lowers file size by re-encoding frames with reduced dimensions, quality, or bitrate. The trade-off is lossy: less data means more visible artifacts, and the most effective settings depend on motion, duration, source resolution, and the platform that will receive the file.
This page uses Canvas capture and the browser's MediaRecorder VP8 or VP9 encoder, keeping the source on the device. Codec support and output behavior vary by browser, exact target size is not guaranteed, and long videos require significant processing time and memory. Preserve the original before compression.
