What does a VPN speed test compare?

A VPN speed test measures latency and browser download behavior on the current route so it can be compared with a similar run when the VPN is disconnected. Repeated pairs help estimate the overhead introduced by encryption, routing distance, congestion, and the selected VPN server.

This page uses Cloudflare's speed-test engine and global edge network. One run also reflects Wi-Fi quality, device load, ISP variation, browser state, and nearby edge capacity, so it cannot isolate VPN cost by itself. Compare several tests under similar conditions and use medians rather than the single highest result.
