What does a hash generator produce?
A hash generator turns input text into a fixed-length digest that changes when the input changes. This page calculates MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, and SHA-512 together, which is useful for checksums, integrity comparisons, protocol debugging, and reproducing values expected by another system.
Text is encoded as UTF-8; the SHA algorithms use Web Crypto and MD5 uses a local implementation. A hash is one-way rather than encrypted data, and MD5 and SHA-1 are collision-broken for security uses. Password storage requires a deliberately slow password hash such as bcrypt, not a fast general-purpose digest.
