WHOIS Lookup

The WHOIS Lookup queries live registration records for a domain, returning the registrar, creation and expiry dates, nameservers and status codes. It runs server-side through the whoiser client, with registrant details redacted by most registrars under GDPR.

What does a WHOIS lookup report?

A WHOIS lookup queries domain-registration records for the registrar, important dates, nameservers, and registry status codes associated with a domain. It can help verify ownership infrastructure, investigate expiry risk, and find the registrar responsible for updates or abuse handling.

The server uses the whoiser client with a five-second timeout and one referral hop after stripping protocols and paths from input. Most registrars redact personal registrant fields under privacy rules, and registry data can be incomplete or delayed. WHOIS information is not proof that a website operator controls the domain.
