Word Counter

A word counter reports words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs and estimated reading time for a block of text. It runs as you type, entirely in the browser, so nothing you paste is uploaded — which matters when the text is unpublished or confidential.

What does a word counter measure?

A word counter summarizes a text by counting words, characters with and without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time. The measurements update while typing, making the page useful for editorial limits, form fields, essays, scripts, and accessibility checks without sending unpublished copy elsewhere.

Words are counted as whitespace-separated runs, paragraphs as blocks divided by blank lines, and reading time at 200 words per minute. Sentence detection uses punctuation heuristics rather than a language parser, so abbreviations and unusual prose can affect the result; hyphenated compounds count as one word.
